City addresses cleaning and supply shortages at Bedfordview Clinic

The City of Ekurhuleni has awarded a new cleaning contract and addressed supply shortages at Bedfordview Clinic, with services expected to normalise in early August.

The CoE addressed the recent challenges at the Bedfordview Clinic, including the absence of cleaners and a shortage of essential supplies.

According to CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the city awarded a new cleaning contract on July 21 and expects services to start in the first week of August.

In the interim, the staff cleaned the facility themselves.

Dlamini confirmed that the clinic had no basic supplies for a week, but the Gauteng Department of Health intervened to help.

“A directive was issued for all clinics to place orders with the Gauteng Department of Health, and each clinic received a delivery of tissue paper on July 14.

“Regarding staff safety, the facility is staffed daily by one security officer, with an additional guard stationed at the main gate to protect personnel and municipal property,” said Dlamini.

He said the patients from neighbouring clinics, particularly from the CoJ, had long been a concern.

“It remains difficult to conclusively state that Operation Dudula is a contributing factor,” he added.

Based on a recent risk assessment at the facility, Dlamini said the clinic is safe to remain operational under the present conditions.

He also confirmed that the matter had been escalated to the Gauteng Department of Health.

“To date, the department has not provided additional support, and the city is managing the safety challenges at the clinic,” Dlamini said.
