Meadowdale veld fire damages electrical infrastructure
Parts of Highway Gardens, Harmelia, Buurendal, Meadowdale and Henville face power outages lasting up to six days after a veld fire damaged exposed cables.
Parts of Highway Gardens, Harmelia, Buurendal, Meadowdale and Henville can expect to be without power for several days after electrical infrastructure was damaged during a veld fire.
According to Ward 92 Clr Kade Guerreiro a veld fire on the evening of August 23, in the Meadowdale area, damaged several exposed power cables.
He said the energy department was on site today August 24 to locate the cables.
“The department and contractors will need to return to the site to work on the cables,” said Guerreiro.
Initially the problem was believed to be linked to cable theft however Guerreiro said that this was not the case.
Guerreiro said that although the department officials have identified the problem illegal miners nearby pose a challenge to repairs.
“The City of Ekurhuleni said it will try and get EMPD to assist the repair team,” said Guerreiro.
Guerreiro said because of the magnitude of the damage it is estimated that repairs could take between four to six days.
