Bronze medals for St Andrew’s first team and U16 hockey squads

St Andrew’s School for Girls’ first team and U16 hockey teams have secured bronze medals at the prestigious 2025 Pullen Howell Hockey Tournament.

The school has credited the achievement to the players’ hard work, determination, and team spirit.

“This outstanding achievement is a testament to the hard work, determination, and unrelenting team spirit that our players have shown throughout the season.

“The girls showcased skill, discipline, and resilience against a strong field of competitors, making this a truly memorable season,” said Brandon Townsend, the school’s marketer.

The Pullen Howell Hockey Tournament was co-founded by Rob Pullen and Ros Howell, former hockey coaches at St Andrew’s and St Mary’s schools, respectively.

Their vision was to create a competitive platform that extends beyond traditional district leagues, giving schools greater exposure and opportunities to grow in girls’ hockey.

In recognition of their contributions to the sport, the tournament trophies are named in honour of Pullen and Howell.

Both are former South African senior national coaches and passionate advocates for nurturing young hockey talent.

Townsend extended his congratulations to the players and coaching staff:

“Your commitment and sportsmanship continue to make us proud. This season will be remembered as one of resilience, teamwork, and achievement.”
