St Benedict’s hosts collaborative learning programme with Assumpta Primary
St Benedict’s Preparatory School welcomed Grade Five and Six learners from Assumpta Primary Catholic School for a values-driven learning initiative, including swimming lessons, academic projects, and a Mandela Day Ubuntu service project.

Rooted in the school’s guiding principle of Veritas in Caritate (Truth in Charity), St Benedict’s Preparatory School recently hosted an enriching and values-driven collaborative learning initiative with Assumpta Primary Catholic School from Sharpeville, Vereeniging.
“The programme, which ran every Wednesday from 25 June to 6 August, brought together Grade Five and Six learners from both schools to learn and grow together.

Visiting pupils engaged in a structured ‘Learn to Swim’ programme and a focused academic curriculum alongside their St Benedict’s peers.
A key component was a dynamic Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) project that encouraged curiosity, critical thinking and collaboration,” said St Benedict’s head of marketing, Mpumi Motsabi.
In honour of Mandela Day, the pupils lived out the spirit of Ubuntu through a shared service project. United in compassion, they prepared soup mix packets for distribution, offering nourishment and care to those in need as part of their 67 minutes of service.
“This initiative exemplified Truth in Charity not only through the knowledge shared but through the relationships formed, the empathy shown and the dignity upheld in every interaction.
“It fostered deep connections, mutual respect and a genuine sense of shared purpose between the two schools,” she said.
“The success of the programme was made possible by the generous support of the broader St Benedict’s community.

“Special thanks go to Dalrod Stationers, Capitol Catering and Pick n Pay, along with the many parents who contributed funds and materials, enabling the purchase of swimming costumes and towels for the visiting pupils,” added Motsabi.
Families involved in Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives were also encouraged to consider ongoing support for this meaningful work. In doing so, they continue to help bring the values of community and family to life, one learning opportunity at a time.
The relationship with Assumpta Primary Catholic School started in 2024 and will continue for the foreseeable future.
