Meet Bedfordview and Edenvale News’ new senior journalist, Naidine Sibanda

With years of reporting experience and a heart for local issues, Naidine Sibanda joins the team as senior journalist.

We are excited to welcome Naidine Sibanda as the new senior journalist at Bedfordview and Edenvale News.

She steps into the role previously held by Sharon Mdaka, who joined the team in November 2022.

Sharon served the community with dedication and integrity, covering stories with both depth and passion. She did a stellar job during her time with us and will be deeply missed by colleagues and readers alike.

Naidine brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She holds a BA in Journalism from the University of Johannesburg and spent two years with TEACH South Africa, teaching English at King Zwelithini Primary School in Soweto.

In 2018, she joined Caxton’s Rosebank Killarney Gazette as a journalist and was promoted to senior journalist in her third year.

During her time there, she also mentored interns and twice received recognition for her work in sports journalism.

She was nominated as a rising star in the sports news category at the Forum for Community Journalists (FCJ) Awards in 2021 and became a finalist in 2023.

Most recently, Naidine worked as communications officer for the James and Ethel Gray Park Foundation, serving the Melrose and surrounding communities.

Reflecting on her experience, Naidine shared: “During my five years and seven months with Caxton’s Joburg North branch, I covered a wide range of news, including sports, service delivery, crime, schools, and community events.

“I always strived to listen to the needs of the community and to seek feedback and solutions from the relevant authorities.”

Looking ahead, she added: “I look forward to connecting with the Bedfordview and Edenvale community and encourage residents to share their stories, whether they’re about service delivery challenges, local achievements, milestones, or general concerns.
