Truck carrying toxic substance overturns on R25 near Edenvale
Emergency teams responded after an articulated truck transporting ammonium nitrate jackknifed and overturned, causing a minor chemical spill on the R25.
An articulated truck carrying a toxic substance lost control, jackknifed, and overturned on the R25 towards Edenvale, just after the Zuurfontein Bridge, on the evening of October 28.
The crew from the Kempton Park Fire Station swiftly responded to the scene
Upon arrival, they found the truck lying on its side. Preliminary reports indicated that the male driver had already been transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

“Technicians from the transport company arrived on site and confirmed that the truck had been carrying ammonium nitrate. Both lanes of the road were temporarily closed to allow for a safe and smooth recovery operation.
“During the recovery process, it was discovered that part of the tanker had collided with the truck during the jackknife, resulting in a manageable spillage. Two hazardous materials companies were on site to contain and manage the spill.
“The cause of the accident remains unknown and is under investigation,” said Disaster and Emergency Management Services’ Eric Maloka.
