Joburg motorists urged to drive safely as heavy rain hits the city

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) has urged motorists and residents to remain vigilant as persistent rainfall is causing slippery roads and potential flooding across the city.

Heavy rain has been reported across most parts of Johannesburg, with the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) urging motorists to drive cautiously and residents to remain alert for possible flooding.

According to EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi, many roads in the metro are wet and slippery, posing an increased risk of accidents.

“Motorists are advised to extend their following distance, reduce speed, and avoid crossing flooded roads or low-lying bridges,” said Mulaudzi.

Residents living in flood-prone or low-lying areas have been urged to avoid crossing river streams while carrying out their daily activities, as water levels may rise unexpectedly.

City of Johannesburg EMS teams remain on high alert, monitoring all seven regions for any emergencies that may occur as the rain continues.

Residents are encouraged to contact the Emergency Services Command and Control Centre on 011 375 5911 for any life-threatening situations or flooding incidents.
