Santaco rolls out national festive safety drive for taxi commuters
The 2025 Hlokomela Festive Season Campaign focuses on road safety, commuter protection and stronger cooperation between Santaco, government and passengers.
The (Santaco) has launched its 2025 Hlokomela Festive Season Campaign, outlining a national programme aimed at improving road safety and protecting commuters during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
Running until January 13, the campaign includes roadworthiness inspections, safety activations, and Hlokomela Champion engagements at taxi ranks across all nine provinces.
Santaco will collaborate with government departments, law enforcement agencies and civil society organisations to promote compliance, responsible driving and safer travel within the taxi industry.

Santaco president Motlhabane Abnar Tsebe reaffirmed the council’s commitment to commuter safety, emphasising the need for strong cooperation during the peak holiday rush.
National spokesperson Mmatshikhidi Rebecca Phala said the campaign goes beyond enforcement and focuses on building trust and partnership with the public.
“We want commuters to know that their safety is at the centre of everything we do. This campaign is designed to educate, protect and support every South African who relies on taxis during the festive season. When commuters and operators cooperate, lives are saved,” said Phala.
She added that clear, ongoing communication will be essential throughout the campaign, urging passengers to stay informed.
“We encourage the public to follow our official platforms for daily updates, safety messages and rank activations taking place across the country. Together, we can create a safer travel environment for everyone this festive season.”
