Horwoods Family Market Christmas Edition brings festive cheer to Edenvale

In support of small businesses and bringing the community together, the Urban Markets brought Edenvale residents the Horwoods Family Market Christmas Edition.

The Horwoods Family Market – Christmas Edition, hosted by the Urban Markets, brought festive cheer to Edenvale on December 7.

Held at Horwoods Farm, the event featured around 160 small businesses showcasing handmade crafts, gourmet food, and lively entertainment for the whole family.

Charlene Jacobson, one of the event organisers, said the Urban Markets have been running since 2018.

“We opened the market to get people to start using the park again because if it sits empty all the time, the City might want to use it for other purposes. If that happens, it doesn’t remain a community park,” she explained.

Jacobson added that, with people living in smaller homes these days, the park provides much-needed space. The organisers offer pensioners’ rates, support charities, and create activities for children.

“We’ve actually helped maintain the park. For instance, if something breaks, we try our best to fix it using some of the money from the entrance.

“Basically, the entrance fees go towards our business, but we also use some of it to help the park,” she said.

The Urban Markets also donate funds to Essentially Edenvale every month. Jacobson said they have a staff member on the property who helps move items and assist with maintenance, working together with Essentially Edenvale.

The Urban Markets run every first Sunday of the month for a small entrance fee. Jacobson said the events feature live music and highlight local artists.

“We try to keep the community together. There are so many schools in the area, so we like to get them involved. It’s mainly about helping small businesses,” she concluded.
