Gauteng urges parents to support children ahead of matric results
The Gauteng Department of Community Safety has encouraged parents to remain alert and supportive as matric learners await their results, emphasising emotional well-being and reassurance about future opportunities.
As matric learners across the province prepare to receive their results, the Gauteng Department of Community Safety has urged parents and caregivers to play an active role in supporting their children during what can be a stressful and emotionally charged period.
The department has advised parents to closely monitor their children’s emotional well-being as they await their matric results, noting that anxiety and uncertainty can affect learners in different ways.
Parents are encouraged to be attentive to changes in mood and behaviour, and to take early action if they notice signs of emotional distress.

The department has also cautioned against placing additional pressure on learners at this time, stressing that unrealistic expectations can increase stress levels.
Instead, parents are urged to offer reassurance and to engage positively with their children about their plans and options going forward.
This includes helping learners explore alternative pathways, such as different study programmes or institutions, should they not immediately meet their desired admission requirements.
The department highlighted that matric results, while important, do not define a learner’s future. With the right guidance and support, young people can still build successful and fulfilling careers regardless of the outcomes.
Parents are reminded that open communication, understanding and encouragement can make a significant difference as learners navigate this important transition.
