Little Eden marks 59 years of providing lifelong care and support

“Together we continue building a future where every resident is embraced, valued, and nurtured throughout every stage of life."

This year, Little Eden Society celebrates 59 years of love, dignity, care, and unwavering purpose.

What began in 1967 with just three children and the compassionate vision of Danny and Domitilla Hyams has grown into a lifelong home and sanctuary for 1 068 residents who have called Little Eden Society home over the years.

The society has two homes, one based in Edenvale and another located in Bapsfontein.

From humble beginnings, driven by love and the belief that every life has value and purpose, Little Eden stands today as a beacon of hope to residents, families, communities, and all who walk through its doors.

For nearly six decades, the society has remained committed to nurturing and caring for some of the most vulnerable members of society, individuals living with profound intellectual disability.

“Every smile is shared, every milestone celebrated, every comforting hand held, and every life embraced reminds us that true impact is not measured only in numbers, but in the dignity and belonging we create together,” said CEO of Little Eden Society, Ann Coetzee.

She highlighted that none of the society’s achievements and accomplishments would have been possible without the unwavering support of the incredible community, the society’s donors, volunteers, staff, families, and partners, who continue to believe in and champion society’s vision.

“Your compassion has helped sustain not just an organisation, but a family and a lifelong promise of care.”

As Little Eden celebrates this milestone, Coetzee said the society looks toward the future with hope and determination.

The need for lifelong care and support remains as important today as it was in 1967.

“Together we continue building a future where every resident is embraced, valued, and nurtured throughout every stage of life.

“We invite you to be part of our journey and our story.”

Coetzee encouraged community members to visit the society’s two homes and experience first-hand how being part of the Little Eden family creates true impact and changes lives, not only for its residents, but for every person touched by this community of compassion.

She thanked those who continue to assist the society in nurturing abilities and embracing every unique journey.
