Modderfontein Academy brings colour to the community
Proceeds from the Modderfontein Academy Colour Run will be used towards the school concert at the end of the year as well as their music, and arts centres.

Plain white T-shirts turned colourful at the Modderfontein Academy Colour Run recently.
Teaching staff and families from the school community participated in the colour run on May 30.
Owner and founder of Modderfontein Academy, Tamsynn Lipchick, said they wanted something that unites their entire school community through pure fun and movement.
“A colour run isn’t about winning; it’s about kids, parents and teachers laughing together, getting active, and creating memories.

“It captures the spirit of Modderfontein Academy: energy, inclusivity, and togetherness,” she said.
Academy principal Starr-Hannah Scott said the idea for the colour run actually started last year when Michelle (teacher) first suggested it.
“At the time, it did not quite work out, but the idea stayed with us because we knew it was something special that we wanted to bring to the school,” explained Scott.
They officially started planning towards the end of last term, around the beginning of April.

After the school holidays, at the beginning of May, the principal noticed that everyone jumped in wholeheartedly, and they started putting everything together.
Scott added, “It has been wonderful to see how dedicated and enthusiastic everyone has been throughout the planning process.
“From staff to parents and sponsors, everyone has contributed in some way, and that teamwork is what made this event possible.”

The principal acknowledged that the colour run means so much to the Modderfontein Academy community because it was their very first event of this scale as a school.

“We are a small school, with about 45 students from Grade R to Grade 12, so to be able to put together something like this is incredibly exciting and rewarding for us.
“For us, this event represents growth, unity and opportunity. It shows that our school is growing into something bigger, and that we have a community that truly believes in what we are building,” said Scott.
She said that at Modderfontein Academy, they want to continue creating opportunities for learners, supporting all students, and building a positive, welcoming environment where everyone feels included and events like this really bring that vision to life.
The principal also acknowledged that events of this size simply would not be possible without the support of their sponsors, parents, staff, families and the wider community.

She said they were overwhelmed by the generosity, encouragement and willingness of people to get involved and support the school.
“It is especially meaningful to see people giving up their time to support the school on a Saturday, because it shows how much people care about our learners and our school community. We truly cannot thank everyone enough — without their support, this event would not have been possible,” commended Scott.
Teacher Michelle Prager shared that everything was done for the children through teamwork. She said that at the end of the year, they hold a concert and always reach for the stars with each one.

“We always challenge ourselves to do better than the year before, and last year we started having the concert in the big hall. So a lot of the money is going towards our concert for our backdrops and to get the costumes that each child will need for the individual items,” she expounded.

She added that a portion of the funds raised will be used to develop the school’s music centre, with the aim of encouraging learners to nurture their talents and enhancing the music room’s facilities. Another portion of the funds will be allocated to the school’s arts room.
