Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy gives back through feeding scheme
The Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy, through its foundation NPO, continues to support disadvantaged families with food donations and community outreach.
The Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy makes things happen on and off the court.
Academy co-founder coach Edson Makavan organised a feeding scheme on January 10 through the Edenvale Basketball Foundation NPO.
“We started this initiative in 2018, which was when we registered our NPO. We do outreach work, helping people by giving them food, electronics, equipment, computers and more,” explained Makavan.

The NPO and students source what they need, then visit disadvantaged families to give them food. Their sponsors also donate the food.
“We are a basketball academy, but we do community work outside our basketball court.
“This year, we are trying to push for more sponsors because there are many people who need help. Life is tough for everyone, and if you are in a position to give a little to help others, please do it,” Makavan encouraged.
He acknowledged his partner, with whom he ran the academy, coach Byron Pinheiro. He left to pursue other projects, but is still involved with the charity initiative.

Makavan said they helped out during Covid-19, bringing food parcels for people to fetch at the Edenvale Sports Club basketball courts.
The academy will reopen on January 14 with training, drills, and running because it’s a new season, with new players.
