Better Edenvale volunteers clean up Denver Park in bid to restore community space
Members of Better Edenvale joined volunteers and the Edenvale Parks Department for a clean-up campaign at Denver Park, removing overgrown vegetation and litter as part of ongoing efforts to improve and maintain the public space.
Volunteers and members of the non-profit organisation Better Edenvale joined forces during a clean-up campaign at Denver Park.
The clean-up, held on June 6, marked the first phase of a two-part operation aimed at restoring the park.
During the initiative, volunteers cut overgrown grass, removed litter and debris, and cleared materials left behind by recyclers and vagrants who frequently use the park.

One of the directors of Better Edenvale, Marc De Sousa, explained that the clean up of Denver Park is an annual project conducted by Better Edenvale; however, the NPO has plans to clean and maintain the park more frequently.

He said that although there is an appointed contractor to maintain the park, there is little evidence to suggest work has recently been done.

De Sousa said during the course of the park’s clean-up, the NPO was working in partnership with the Edenvale Parks Department.
“This is a community park, we want to keep it as neat and tidy as possible.”
He said that by removing the overgrown vegetation, the NPO hoped that it would reduce the likelihood of vagrants living in and recyclers operating in the park.

To conduct regular and effective clean-ups, De Sousa said the NPO would need to invest in equipment, such as tractors and other heavy machinery. This would not only be used in Edenvale but by surrounding neighbourhoods.
“We, however, need the community’s support to achieve this goal,” said De Sousa.
