Edenvale Bowling Club hosts fundraiser after R130 000 water leak

The Edenvale Bowling Club called on the community to rally behind the club at a fun-filled fundraising event in September.

Set to be held on September 13, the event will help cover the costs of a major water leak that has left the club with expenses exceeding R130 000.

The highlight of the day will be a road rally, where participants will embark on a journey through Edenvale, visiting well-known landmarks and unique locations throughout the town.

Along the route, teams will answer a series of questions, solve clues and uncover interesting facts about the area’s history and attractions.

Participants will be scored according to the kilometres they accumulate during their journey, adding a competitive element to the day.

The club emphasised that there is no time limit and it is not a race.

The event will start at 08:30, and vehicles will leave at two-minute intervals.

Entry for the road rally is R250 per participant or family, with all proceeds going towards helping the club recover from the substantial financial impact of the water leak.

Winners will receive a week’s trip to Sondela Game Lodge between October 9 and 16.

The event promises something for the whole family.

Community members can also enjoy a champagne breakfast in the Edenvale Bowling Club’s dining hall.

Adding to the day’s fun will be educational and interactive displays by local non-profit organisation Brainy Birds, a live snake demonstration by reptile experts from Snake City, and a canine demonstration from Understanding Dog.

Club president Bernyce Hollingworth said the fundraiser is vital in helping the club remain financially sustainable while continuing to maintain its facilities for members and the wider community.

“Not only did we have to pay for the water that was lost, but we also had to cover the repair costs and the call-out fee,” she explained.

“As custodians of the property, it is our responsibility to maintain the building and ensure that the facilities remain in good condition.

“Fundraising events like this road rally help us cover ongoing maintenance costs as well as unforeseen expenses such as the water leak.”

She encouraged residents to come out in support, enjoy a memorable day with family and friends, and help ensure the continued success of one of Edenvale’s longstanding community clubs.
