My average monthly water consumption for 2012 was R320, which included weekly garden watering, daily bathing, flushing the loo every time – in other words, living a fairly normal life when, wham, January brought a living nightmare.
My monthly consumption is now between R900 and R1 100, my garden is dying, having watered it once in three months. I bath once a week, relying on the generosity of family and friends to share their bathrooms with me, flush the loo only when to prolong it would kill me.
All this for just myself, my aged canine and cat – yet neighbours have families of five or more but their water consumption is half of mine.
The water department found no leaks, which was a relief.
Then the crunch. I have to pay R980 for them to check if my meter is faulty. If it is not, they keep the money.
This smacks of extortion or corruption.
Please can someone out there provide with some answers or help.
