He died peacefully, almost two years after his beloved wife and founder of the society, Domitilla Rota Hyams, died.
Their absence has emphasised the realisation that the impact they had in their lifetime has come full circle. They have left us with the great responsibility of continuing their legacy and doing so with dignity and love when caring for persons with profound intellectual disability.
I think back to our first three residents in 1967; the admission of the first black child, Stephina, in 1985, the opening of the home in Edenvale in 1976 after renting and moving over 13 times, the constant challenge of financial sustainability, the wonder of Divine Providence, the deep sadness of losing a resident, and the joy of welcoming a new child into our warm, loving home. It is comforting to know you are there with us on this journey – always ready, always reaching out with helping hands.
I take this opportunity to thank you for your loyal and on-going support. Little Eden continues to strive to build a reserve fund as this will assist us to achieve our core mission, which is to provide quality care to our special angels who depend on us so completely. Please renew your support in the coming year and continue to share in the work the society carries out for the most vulnerable among us.
Domitilla and Danny’s touch will continue to be felt through our values that are practised daily in our labour of love: Respect, Sanctity of Life and Love and Care.
I wish you and your loved ones a blessed and joyful Christmas and may the new year be filled with peace and happiness.
