Illiondale dump irritates resident

As a result, the weeds, and it is still winter, have grown over these mounds of rubble and soil, and it looks absolutely terrible. Disgusting would be a more accurate term.

EDITOR – I refer to the proposed “circle” which was supposed to have taken place on the main road out of Edenvale leading to Modderfontein Road, through Illiondale; I am sure you recall it.

Construction camps were set up, trees which had been grown for years dug out or should I say, ripped out the ground on Aitken Road, to make way for this progress.

Then mounds of soil were bulldozed on both sides of the road, obviously clearing the land in preparation for the promised traffic calming circle.

The area was absolutely tatty, and let me not forget to mention, that it was then abandoned for some time for whatever reason, looking like an absolute tip, then it started again.

Not long, the site office and fence was removed. Things happened which were conducive of the project being completed, except for all the heaps of soil and concrete barriers, which were just left as they were after the project was abandoned. This occurred after finding some reticulation systems, which I am sure you know about, which had not been accounted for.

As a result, the weeds, and it is still winter, have grown over these mounds of rubble and soil, and it looks absolutely terrible. Disgusting would be a more accurate term.

When we drive home we are forced, as are visitors to the area, to gaze upon this terrible sight, which seems to be permanent now.

I would have thought the contractor concerned would have been grabbed by the council and forced to clean up properly after themselves.
