Con artist targets women

When he approached me, I told him I contribute to my own charities and do not give money to people who beg.

EDITOR – I would like to bring to the attention of all residents that a young white male, approximately 30 years of age, is conning women out of money in a number of supermarkets in the Edenvale area and possibly elsewhere.

He walks around with a trolley filled with Pamper Nappies and approaches women.

He then shows a picture of a baby on his cellphone and tells them that he is in desperate need of money to buy milk for his baby. I have personally seen a gullible woman give him as much as R100.

When he approached me, I told him I contribute to my own charities and do not give money to people who beg.

I decided to alert the security at Greenstone as I object to being hassled when I shop. A very nice security guard walked with me to look for this man. Eventually we found him hassling a young mother with two little ones in her trolley.

The security guard warned him to stop this behaviour, otherwise he will be banned from the supermarket. I then continued with my shopping, until I realised this man was following me. I turned around and he approached me saying: When I leave the supermarket he will “get me”.

I was afraid of his threat, and after I had finished my shopping, I asked a security guard to walk me to my car, which he did – a bouquet to Pick ‘n Pay, Greenstone security. Be aware of this con artist.
