Combination FC edges out Madulammoho

Malvern’s Combination FC had to work for its 2-1 victory against a determined Madulammoho FC during their match played at the Rhodes Park Sports Grounds on April 6.

Madulammoho FC was quick out the box with some good inter-play, using the wingers to whip in some decent crosses.

The aim was to take advantage of their aerial strength, with two big strikers upfront. Combination FC were absorbing the pressure, being kept in their own half.

It did not take long before Madulammoho FC took the lead. The ball was crossed and the Combination FC goalkeeper hesitated in coming out to clear the ball.

Combination FC, who enjoyed large support from the crowd, kept pressing and were finally rewarded when a mistake at the back was punished to level matters at 1-1, going into the half-time break.

Combination FC seemed to understand the coach’s instructions better as they attacked from the first whistle. They seemed a different team, showing more urgency on the ball.

They were rewarded when they earned a free kick just outside the Madulammoho 18-yard area. Despite a solid wall, the ball managed to curl over it and slammed into the back of the net.

The goal seemed to bring the game to life, with one team trying to level matters and the other trying to consolidate their lead.

Combination FC won 2-1.
