Entries are open for Dis-Chem Half-Marathon

The are 6 000 entries for the half-marathon and 1 000 for the 5km event. Entries close on December 15.

Entries are open for the Dis-Chem Half-Marathon and 5km Fun Run presented by Momentum Multiply, on January 14.

The route, which winds its way through the hills of Bedfordview, Morninghill and Primrose – providing runners with a challenging route and spectacular views – remains unchanged.

The race director, Charnia Yapp, said the Bedfordview Country Club Athletics looks forward to hosting the 22nd edition of the race, which has been rebranded.

“We are delighted to continue the journey with Dis-Chem and co-sponsors who make races like ours possible for novice and seasoned runners to enjoy,” said Yapp.

The health category marketing manager for Dis-Chem, Brandon Fairweather said they are proud to continue their 22-year sponsorship of the event.

“The long-standing relationship with Bedfordview Country Club Athletics has served us well, and we have no doubt the team will deliver another first-class event,” he said.

Yapp thanked all the event’s sponsors, including Smecta, TransAct and Centrum, for their contribution in ensuring the continued success of the event.

The head of Multiply Incentivised Wellness for Momentum Health Solutions, Marcia Eugenio said the runners will earn rewards for making healthy choices and for every step they take to improve their overall health.

“We’re excited to partner with the Dis-Chem Half-Marathon and 5km Dash because it aligns with getting our members to make healthier choices and stay active,” she said.

There are 6 000 entries available for the 21km race and all entrants will receive a technical race T-shirt and goodie bag. The race will have a seeded start and will be timed.

Entries close on December 15 or once the available entries are sold.

There are 1 000 entries for the 5km fun run and entrants will get a pair of Centrum-branded socks.

The half-marathon starts in Riley Road at 06:00 and the 5km dash, which will also be timed, starts at 06:30.

The funds raised during the event will go to the Lambano Sanctuary for orphaned children with HIV and the Namaqua Dog and Donkey Foundation, which undertakes the sterilisation, vaccination and treatment of animals in informal settlements on the East Rand.

All donations by runners, over and above their entry fee, will be matched by the Dis-Chem Foundation.
