Local skateboarders win competition

Skateboarders Calvin Kotze and Gazeebo win sponsorship from the international brand Punisher Skateboards.

Local skaters Calvin Kotze and Gazeebo won the month-long competition hosted by Air360 Skatepark and international brand Punisher Skateboards.

The win comes after the two brands partnered to empower local skaters with sponsorships from the international brand.

The challenge began at the start of September and ended on the 30th.

Local skaters had to head to the Air360 skatepark and capture their best moves, mind-blowing tricks, and jaw-dropping stunts and tag the brands on their social media pages.

Gazeebo and Calvin Kotze are excited about their new sponsorship.

Air360’s Kotze thanked everyone who participated in the competition.

Kotze said he was ‘super-amped’ about winning.

“As a skateboarder, sponsorship opportunities are what we look for because they give us a chance to grow. It definitely drives my motivation and commitment to the sport,” he explained.

The Edenvale resident has skated on and off from a young age.

“Skateboarding has always caught my interest, but I only took it seriously about 13 years ago,” said Kotze.

He said the sport has a great culture by which people learn from one another, and learning new tricks is exhilarating.
