Edenvale footballer plays in Portugal
Rising star Mackay Msezane, 18, is set to join GD Estoril Praia’s U19 squad in Portugal after honing his skills at Edenvale’s Football Institute and impressing at international tournaments.
Bedfordview resident Mackay Msezane is heading to Portugal after signing with GD Estoril Praia.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper will join the club’s U19 team as he works towards training with the professional squad.
Msezane began his football journey at the age of nine with Edenvale-based The Football Institute (TFI).
He gained experience and recognition competing in tournaments such as the Maritimo Tournament, four Iber Cups, and the Challenge Cup in Portugal.

His performances and skill have attracted attention from clubs across South Africa. Over the years, Msezane also attended several elite training camps, providing valuable opportunities for assessment and development. In 2024, Estoril coaches invited him to train with both their U19 C-squad and U23 team.
Speaking ahead of his move to Portugal, Msezane said he is excited about the future.
“It is a huge opportunity, and I am grateful to have reached this milestone,” he said.
Msezane’s love for football began at a very young age.

“Although I played other sports, football has always been my passion. No other sport gives me the same excitement,” he said.
Looking ahead, Msezane aspires to become one of South Africa’s best goalkeepers and to leave a lasting legacy in football. Offering advice to younger players, he urged them to stay consistent and coachable. “Listen to the advice and wisdom of your coaches,” he said.
