Young Central Gauteng athlete shines on track, eyes Olympic dream

Young Central Gauteng athlete Nokubonga Hlatshwayo is making waves on the track, dominating school and club competitions while balancing academics and leadership roles. Her sights are set on the Olympic Games.

Nokubonga Hlatshwayo is taking over both school and club competitions with ease, thanks to her consistent performance and determination on the track.

Like many young athletes, Nokubonga’s athletic journey began at school, where her talent quickly drew attention.

Her skills soon became a talking point within Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA), and she has since emerged as a standout talent in the province.

Recently, she competed in the Sub Youth Track and Field League One, participating in the girls U13 100m and 200m events.

Her performances continue to impress, and her growth in the sport has been steady and inspiring.

In 2023, she placed third at the Gauteng Schools Championships and went on to qualify again in 2024.

She also earned a medal at the national level, marking a major milestone in her young career, as part of the winning relay team.

“My biggest dream is to one day compete on the world stage at the Olympic Games. Its a goal I am chasing with passion and discipline,” said Nokubonga.

“Off the track, I receive unwavering support from my family, who accompany me to competitions with placards and make sure that I have all the necessary equipment to succeed.

“Academically, I hold full colours in sport and I am a member of the Representative Council of Learners (RCL) Gold Team, showing excellence in both athletics and leadership,” said Nokubonga.
