Jeppe Girls celebrate opening of new multipurpose courts
The facility aims to enhance sporting excellence, teamwork and learner development, with learners, staff and alumni joining in the festivities and a friendly netball match.
Jeppe High School for Girls marked a proud and historic milestone last week, Tuesday, as they officially opened their brand new multipurpose courts.
Headmistress Sybil Bhagwan said this development promises to strengthen the school’s long-standing tradition of excellence in sport and holistic learner development.
“The occasion is more than just the unveiling of new sporting facilities. It symbolised a commitment to teamwork, resilience, growth and school pride. “These courts will serve as a dedicated space where young athletes can develop their skills, build confidence and pursue sporting excellence across multiple disciplines,” said Bhagwan.
The girls showcased their different talents as the school’s marimba band, Hlabelela, set a celebratory tone for the celebration. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, learners, staff and invited guests were treated to a competitive, friendly netball match between the school’s first netball team and members of staff.

The match not only entertained guests but also showcased the deep sense of unity and school spirit that defines the Jeppe community.
The school also shared this special occasion with Old Jeppe staff, representatives of the Jeppe Old Girls (JOG), school governing body members, as well as Mr Gittins and Mr Lincoln from Jeppe High School for Boys.
Their presence reflected the strong partnerships and shared heritage that continue to shape both institutions.
Headmaster Lincoln shared his joy with the girls. “I’m here on behalf of the boys to show our appreciation. We wish you many wonderful times on these courts.”
The headmistress said these courts are one of many investments in infrastructure to ensure holistic learning for learners.
“With this development, Jeppe High School for Girls continues to build not only world-class facilities, but also bright futures for the learners,” said Bhagwan.
