Edenvale Marathon participants race against the wind
The annual Edenvale Marathon this year adds a new dimension to the race with new routes as well as a 16km distance.
The heavy wind was not a deterrent to about 6 500 runners who participated in the 2026 StaminoGro Edenvale Marathon.
The marathon started and finished at Edenvale High School on March 8.
Participants could run 5km, 16km or 42km on brand new routes in this event hosted by the Edenvale Rand Road Warriors Club.

The club, which was founded in 1989, has played host to the annual road race, which has stood the test of time for the past 37 years.
Race director Robin Hide, who has been part of the club’s journey since its inception, shared that this race was a Comrades and Two Oceans 2026 qualifier.
He said the 16km (10-mile) challenge was a new introduction meant to add a refreshing new dimension to the day.
“The 10-miler is a very popular and regular race distance on the European and American circuits, and we are positive that it will prove to have the same popularity on March 8th,” said Hide.
He added that each of their three events on offer would also all feature brand new routes, bringing about new challenges and opportunities within the same familiar surroundings of Edenvale, very proudly affording runners, “The spirit of running Edenvale”!

Hide said Comrades and Two Oceans qualifying times would all be calculated on a mat-to-mat basis with race timing undertaken by Peak Timing.
