Edenvale targets league leaders
The Edenvale Football Club's U/11 team climbed to second position after beating Benoni Northerns' U/11 team 6-3 on Saturday last week.
The two met at the Edenvale Sports Grounds in a highly contested match.
Edenvale’s coach, Bruce Crosson, said the chances of snatching the league have improved.
“We are now one point behind the log leaders, Old Bens. Looking the way my boys played today, we are progressing well. We are pushing to win the title. We played well and dominated the better part of the game,” Crosson said.
Calin Apollon scored three goals for the Edenvale club. Manasse Kianga scored two, while Colby Nunn netted once.
It was an all-rounder, Jadon Prinsloo, who scored the first and second goals for the Northerns. Cameron Adams scored their final goal.
Northerns’ coach, Victor De Olivera, said his boys were unlucky on the day.
“We missed lots of chances. We created many chances and failed to convert them to goals. In the second half our middle field and defence took a dive. They were tied. We are going back to the drawing board to work on our mistakes,” De Olivera said.
