Scott takes national title
Reddam House grade 12 pupil, Scott Temple has wrapped up the 2013 South African National Formula Vee Championship.
It is contested over eight rounds nationally. Scott will join the ranks on this famous trophy with the likes of racing legends like Dave Charlton, Tony Martin, John Love and Desiré Wilson, the only woman to race Formula 1 and win a race in the British Formula 1 season in 1980.
After he won six of the seven national events held so far, Scott dominated the 2013 championship in his Ferodo Formula Vee.
Scott won with a 40-point lead in the championship after round seven on September 14 at Kyalami race track. There are still two heats to go in the final round which will be held at Zwartkops on November 30. With only 31 points available in that round, Scott cannot be challenged for the title.
Scott qualified on pole position for both races and lead from start to finish in both heats, as well as achieving fastest lap in the first heat.
Scott is relieved to have won this prestigious title with still one round to go. The final round will be held during his matric vacation. Scott said, “I can now concentrate on my matric exams that are coming up soon.”
Scott also currently races a Formula Ford in the National Super Series, where he also won the last national race event at Zwartkops International Raceway. There are two rounds left in the Formula Ford Series at Cape Town’s Killarney Circuit on October 5 and Kyalami on November 2.
Next year, Scott will put all his racing efforts into the 2014 Formula Ford Series, and finances and sponsorship permitting, hopes to compete in the British Formula Ford Festival in 2014 at Brands Hatch where he will race against the world’s best up and coming Formula Ford champions.
