Joburg City Football Club held their Regional League men’s trials at the Olympiacos Soccer Club in Bedfordview on July 26.

Joburg FC assistant coach for Hollywoodbets, Bongane ‘Cafu’ Nyambe, said the objective of the trials was to identify players who could add value to their Regional League team and help them to compete and win the league to gain promotion to the ABC Motsepe League.

Nyambe said the selected players would join players from the previous season for pre-season training. They would also have the opportunity to impress and hopefully get signed for the upcoming season 2026/27.

“The importance of the trials is to get players who will fit in the team philosophy and bring a championship mentality to the group,” said Nyambe.

He added that they sought players who were tactically and technically good in understanding the positions they were playing.

The assistant coach noted that players often made the common mistake of wanting to over-impress the coaches and forgot to stick to the football basics.

Nyambe said if they joined the squad, new players could expect to be in a professional environment, with the philosophy of playing a high-intensity game being enforced.

To the players who were not successful on that day, Nyambe advised, “Never give up. Keep working on yourself and keep trying. Someone somewhere could see something we missed.”

The assistant coach said Joburg FC has many teams from U6 to the senior team.

Nyambe added, “Our coaches are qualified and highly experienced. We participate in the Easterns league, GDL and SAFA Promotional League with the senior team. We are very committed.”
