Locals do well at awards

Nicholas Smith won the Top League Performer and Top Age Grouper-Male award.

Eastern Gauteng Aquatics held its annual awards at a formal brunch on Saturday, May 10.

The awards were successfully hosted by the ESP Kempton Swimming Club.

14 swimmers who trained at the Aquatic Academy this past season performed well.

In the Top 10 Provincial Swimmers category, Murray Copeland was placed 8th and re-awarded his provincial colours. Jessica Burgess earned provincial colours for both open water and competitive swimming. Savannah Mitchell, Storm Ryder and Amber Trollope were all winners in their respective age groups and awarded provincial colours.

Swimmers from the academy who received Eastern Gauteng Awards in the Top Age Group Performers were Phillipa Austin (U/8), Amber Trollope (nine to 10 years age groups), Storm Ryder (11 to 12 years age groups), Savannah Mitchell (13 to 14 years age group), Nicholas Smith (15 to 16 years age group) and Danica Bellingan (17 years and over).

The Top League Performer award went to Nicholas Smith. The Top Level 1 Regional Swimmer was Kyle McKenzie.

Those who obtained provincial colours were Brooklynn Bohler, Jessica Burgess, Murray Copeland, Savannah Mitchell, Storm Ryder, Ashleigh Stock, Caitlin Stott, Amber Trollope, Jayden Trollope and Nadine Vorster.

The EGA Championship Record was awarded to Jayden Trollope (200m breaststroke).

The Open Water Nationals award went to Jessica Burgess.

Robyn Smith received recognition as an inter-provincial team manager.

The trophy for the Top League Club was awarded to ESP Aquatics.
