Fischer takes on first canoe race of the season

The race, from the Meyerton Sports Grounds to Three Rivers, saw several people participate including Franz Fischer, a Kensington resident and member of the Johannesburg Canoe Club.

He was the second great grand master age category finisher of the race in a time of one hour 46 minutes.

Fischer, a committed river paddler who enjoys participating in local races, also spends several weekend hours helping to clear fallen trees, which pose a danger to paddlers, out of rivers.

A number of new paddlers were able to test their newly acquired river skills in the first race of the season.
