Jesse is number one in sub-Saharan Africa
Jesse competed in the boys cadet kata division, where he won the gold medal, beating his opponent from Botswana 5-0 in the final match.
Reddam House College pupil and Edenvale resident, Jesse Sim, was selected by Karate South Africa to represent his country at the Zone Six Sub Saharan All-Styles Karate Championships.
The championships were held in Lusaka, Zambia, recently.
The zone six group of countries includes South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho, Swaziland, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Angola.

This result ranks Jesse as number one in his age group in sub-Saharan Africa. Jesse was also selected to compete in the boys 14 to 17 age group team kata division, where he and his team were placed second overall, winning the silver medal.
By competing for South Africa, Jesse was awarded his Protea colours by the SA Olympic Committee, (SASCOC), making it the third time he has been awarded Protea colours for karate. @BedfordJourno
