Janine, Ian eye Fish River Canoe Marathon
Both have been enjoying their river learning experiences, helped by advanced, experienced, unemployed paddlers from low socio-economic and previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
Ian and Janine Broli from Glendower Golf Estate hope to take part in the Fish River Canoe Marathon in October.
The couple has to complete a minimum of six river races to obtain A grade river status to qualify for the canoe marathon.
Both have been enjoying their river learning experiences, helped by advanced, experienced, unemployed paddlers from low socio-economic and previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
By supporting these youngsters, the couple made their own learning experiences more enjoyable, reducing swim risk by 100 percent and with a guide explaining and demonstrating the correct way to manage rapids, the couple has come a long way despite the chilly winter temperatures.
The Broli couple successfully shot the Meyerton rapid known as Caravan Park, which normally has a 60 to 70 percent swim risk, after completing their river proficiency test which will enable them to participate at official river races. They look forward to the experience of the upcoming races.
