Local karateks bring back medals
All three returned home with top three national rankings.
Edenvale residents, Jesse Sim, Russell Sim and Tanya Vosloo, recently participated in the Karate South Africa all-styles national karate championships.
All three returned home with top three national rankings.
Jesse won two gold medals in the cadet boys kata division and the cadet team kata division.
He was ranked number one in the country in both disciplines.
Russell won a bronze medal for kata in the men’s age 35 to 49 division.
Tanya won gold for the women’s age 35 to 49 kata and a bronze medal for the women age 35 to 49 kumite.
This also ranks her as the number one in her division in the country for kata.
All three karateka train at the Linksfield Goju Kai Karate Academy and all have been selected to represent South Africa at the upcoming Zone 6 All-Styles Karate Championships, to be held in Durban in May.
They will compete against teams from all sub-Saharan African countries at this event.
Nine other members of the Goju Kai Dojo have also been selected to attend the tournament.
