Teams gather for sports day

The Pure Fountain Family Church (PFFC) in Edenvale held its annual sports tournament on October 31 at the Edenvale sports grounds.
This event aims to provide a positive impact to the community.
Ms Kerusha Moodley said initially the event was meant to be a once-off event in 2008, when a group of youth were to attend the 2009 International Youth Conference in Malaysia.
They used the tournament as a way of raising funds for the trip and were able to raise enough funds to enable them to attend the conference.
“Because of the support and the numerous requests made by people who attended the event in 2009, we made a decision that this would be our annual event. Over the years, the support received has been phenomenal,”said Ms Moodley.
“This event has drawn thousands of people into our area over the past years. Having hosted this event for six years now, we have had many sponsors come on board to support this initiative,” said Ms Moodley.
In 2014 the soccer-only tournament included volleyball for the first time.
The Johannesburg Volleyball Association partnered with the PFFC and together, they were able to make the event even bigger.
“Our tournament is much more diverse than a day of sports. It is a fun-filled day for the entire family, featuring a children’s corner and a flea market.
This year’s tournament had a total of 31 soccer teams and 11 volleyball teams participating.
The winning teams were as follows:
- Main Soccer Tournament – Stefanautti Stocks.
- Soccer Shield Cup – Elijah.
- Volleyball Tournament – Delfos Volleyball Club.
