Local racer’s passion shines through
He has sustained a few serious injuries but will stop at nothing.
A passionate racer, who has even raced with broken bones after numerous falls, still loves for his favourite sport.
Eric Cook, who has been riding since the age of three, started racing in 2004.
His dad was a racer and has loved the sport ever since.
According to Eric, the adrenaline of racing – even when he is falling – is an amazing rush.
“My best moments in racing were in 2015 when I was in the extreme festival series and in the first three races I managed to make the podium. My worst moment however, was in 2010 when I crashed in nine out of the 10 races and broke nine bones in that year,” he said.
He has sustained a few serious injuries but will stop at nothing.
Eric said racing takes up most of his time as a lot of preparation goes into racing.
“I train between three and four hours daily from Monday to Saturday. Getting sponsors is also a major role in being a racer. Preparing my bike and practising also contributes to being a good racer,” he said.
He said being a motorcycle racer includes doing theory.
“I do a lot of concentration exercises and study my race track and notes. When we receive a picture of the track, I draw out my own lines and study them,” said Eric.
He said his family has been supportive, as well as his sponsors, who support him and help him in every race.
He said others who want to be involved in motor cycle racing will enjoy it because it is a great time for a family day to enjoy the races and the entertainment available.
