Wandisile – Craven Week hero
The prestigious Coca-Cola® Hero of the Day award is presented on each day of the tournament in recognition of a game changing ‘hero’ moment.
Jeppe High School for Boys grade 12 pupil, Wandisile Simelane has been making a name for himself at the Coca-Cola Craven Week.
Wandisile, who plays for the U/18 Gauteng Lions team, has been named the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day for day two of the U/18 Coca-Cola Craven Week.
The prestigious Coca-Cola Hero of the Day Award is presented each day of the tournament in recognition of a game-changing “hero” moment.
Wandisile was selected for the award by a Coca-Cola appointed panel of rugby experts, led by SuperSport anchor Elma Smit.
He was the Lion’s hero after continuously breaking the back of the WD defence, scoring a hat-trick of tries in the first 30 minutes of the game.
He followed that up with 14 points from the boot, amassing an impressive 29 individual points in the match.
“It was not the main purpose to win the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day, the main purpose was to win the game and to play in one of the main games on Thursday but I am blessed to win the award,” said Wandisile.
Judges were impressed with Wandisile’s performance and added that he has a bright future in the game.
“Big congratulations to Wandisile on his selection as the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day. His ability to find gaps in the opposition’s defence resulted in his team’s victory in their first game of the Coca-Cola Craven Week,” said Smit.
