Dynamite comes in small packages

While most boys his age spend their time playing with toy cars, Dylan spends his time on the track driving his own customised race car.

Although Dylan van der Westhuizen is only eight years old, he drives with the heart of a Formula 1 driver.

The Edenvale racer, who has been on the race tracks since 2014, has claimed a number of titles, many of which can be found at his club, the Ultimate Raceway Club.

In 2015 and 2016, Dylan won the club championships in his age group and in 2016 he was also awarded the title of Ultimate Raceway’s junior sportsman of year.

He is also currently the second place title holder of the South African Oval Nationals.

Dylan has taken the 2017 season head on and will be participating at Oval races across the country.

The young racer drives a Comer W60 2-stroke ‘green machine’ and competes in the Ninja Midget Class.

While most boys his age spend their time playing with toy cars, Dylan spends his time on the track, driving his own customised race car.

When asked what he wants to become one day, he confidently answers, “a Formula 1 driver”.

His mom, Jackie, is probably his biggest fan and even though her son’s extracurricular passion is a costly endeavour, Dylan’s parents do all they possibly can to keep their son’s dream of becoming a world F1 champ, alive.
