Modderfontein named top squash club in Gauteng
The villagers bagged seven major awards, including the Callaghan Trophy for best club in the province.
The Modderfontein Squash Club (MSC) dominated the recent Central Gauteng Squash annual prize-giving at Wanderers Club.
The villagers bagged seven major awards, including the Callaghan Trophy for best club in the province. In recognition of their achievement in promoting squash development, the title of Community Club of the Year went to Modderfontein for the second year in succession.

The flagship first team, comprising young players who came through the Egoli Squash development ranks, and their captain Dikana Mthombeni, one of the initiators of this development programme, received the loudest applause of the night when it was announced how they had annihilated their opposition in the reserve league. They will be representing Modderfontein at the highest level of club squash in 2018.

The ladies’ development team emulated the success of their male counterparts by earning promotion to the second league. Completing the list of individual winning teams were the men’s third and sixth league teams.

Chairman Piet van Dongen dedicated his individual award for his contribution to squash to the members of MSC, the Modderfontein community, Gauteng Squash, Egoli Squash and the MSC’s sponsors. He singled out Moneyline Financial Services for providing the financial muscle required for the club’s development initiatives.
