Hi5Diski is a non-profit organisation that promotes soccer and a healthy, active lifestyle.

The founder of Hi5Diski, Kensington resident Alison Roberts, said that she is pleased to see how the NGO has grown.

“I’m happy to see how far we have come as a team. It has not been easy but the boys have committed themselves and kept on training, which shows passion,” said Roberts.

She said like any other NGO, there are always challenges but they face them as a team.

“For two years we did not have a soccer kit and that can dent the team spirit. But the boys still made it on time for practice and games. We used what we had.

“Some of the boys can’t even afford soccer boots but still come to practice,” said Roberts.

She said that teamwork plays a big role in achieving a goal.

“The team coach has played a big role in the boys’ lives because he spends more time with them and knows them. He has taught them how to be disciplined sportsmen and that is amazing. We are like family and stick together whether we win or lose,” said Roberts.

Hi5Diski is also part of the Joburg East Football Association League.

“Being part of the league has built the boys’ confidence and has also improved their skills,” said Roberts.

She said she would love to see the boys getting scouted by PSL teams and fulfil their dreams.

“When I started the NGO, my aim was to keep the youth off the streets and away from negative influences such as crime and drugs. I also wanted to promote family participation through soccer, collaboratively, with both government agencies and non-profit organisations in order to grow and develop youth,” said Roberts.

Hi5Diski currently has over 30 players and has u-11, u-13 and u-16 teams.

“I would like to invite clubs to come join us at the Rhodes Park soccer fields in support of local talent,” said Roberts.

Hi5Diski needs soccer boots. Anyone interested in donating some can contact Roberts on 071 876 5029.
