Field day for soccer juniors

"It was an awesome tournament. I was really happy with the number of teams that participated."

This year 83 teams participated in the John Tennant Memorial Football Tournament.

Teams from Gauteng’s four soccer districts came together to participate in the pre-season junior tournament hosted by Edenvale Football Club (EFC).

Teams which took part ranged from under-6s to under-12s.

EFC chairperson Dalene Holder said it was the largest tournament in 10 years.

“It was an awesome tournament. I was really happy with the number of teams who participated.”

Holder said the tournament was non-competitive for the u-6, u-7, u-8 and u-9 age groups.

Results for the older age groups were as follows:

• Sporting Academy won the u-10 age group.

• Luso Africa took first place in the u-11 age group.

• Florida Albions won the u-12 category.
