Young motorcyclist has big dreams
“When I go to a competition I go with teammates and try to have as much fun as I can.”
Eleven-year-old motorcyclist Blake Osner has a passion for motorbikes and a need for speed.
Blake, an Edenglen resident, has been riding for the past four years and has no plans to stop.
When Blake first started the sport he started racing with a 125cc pit bike he received for Christmas.
As he grew older his parents bought him larger bikes.

“He enjoys challenges and pushes the envelope whenever he races,” said Jason Osner, Blake’s father.
“He has really been doing well.”

Earlier this year Blake decided to take his racing career to the next level and entered the Gauteng regionals event.
Blake said what he enjoys most about the sport is taking part in the competitions.
“When I go to a competition I go with teammates and try to have as much fun as I can,” said Blake.
“I also enjoy making new friends at the events.”

To ensure that he has enough skill and experience to compete at the Gauteng regionals, Blake still competes in club races.
He trains on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and takes part in races generally on Saturdays.
On average he can train between eight and 10 hours a week.

In order to be on top of his game, Blake tries to stay as healthy as possible.
He has a strict training programme, stays active and fit and tries to eat as healthy as possible.
When he is not racing, Blake often enjoys playing with his Legos or working on his bike.
Blake said he does not find it hard to maintain the balance between racing and his school work at Edenglen Primary School.
His father said he is keeping his grades up and taking part in extramural activities.
“As a father, I am very proud of what my son has achieved,” said Jason.
“He is putting in the effort and you can see it is paying off.”
Although Blake is uncertain about what the future may hold he is dedicated to becoming one of the best motorcyclists in South Africa.
“I would really like to race internationally one day and even race for Red Bull.”
