Edenvale athlete takes first place in Morocco

"I am very happy with my result, but I have much more training to do and bigger weights to lift."

Past Edenglen High School learner Megan Brook-Sofianos was announced an African female power-lifting champion when she competed in Morocco.

Brook-Sofianos competed in the 84kg+ weight category on October 20.

She successfully lifted a 180kg deadlift, a 175kg squat and a 92.5kg bench press.

Brook-Sofianos, who has been training since 2016, trains under the guidance of coach Chantelle du Toit at the CrossFit 1610 gym in Sebenza.

She initially started the sport as a hobby.

“I was never an active child or teenager, and to say that I have represented South Africa is a huge honour,” said Brook-Sofianos.

“I am very happy with my result, but I have much more training to do and bigger weights to lift.”

Brook-Sofianos thanked du Toit and team Barbell 1610.
