Drummies compete at SAMCA

Of the 40 team members 17 qualified for the Gauteng provincial trials at the end of August.

40 learners from Edenglen High School competed in the South African Majorette and Cheerleading (SAMCA) championships in East London where they secured ninth position overall.

Edenglen high’s drummies competed in the elite league against 15 of SA’s top teams and qualified for the national finals.

Results for the championships are as follows:

• Pom/non prop – eighth position.

• Flag – 10th position.

• Mace – 10th position.

• Small drill – ninth position.

• Large drill – ninth position.

• Overall position: ninth position.

Of the 40 team members, 17 qualified for the Gauteng provincial trials at the end of August.

Led by the Grade 12 learner Caitlyn Ferreira, the team has grown during the 2019 season.

On a season from January to July, the drummies train for 360 hours.
