Edenvale karatekas excel at Karate SA Open and Elite Championships
The championships, held in Durban, also included a Protea award ceremony where five of the athletes were presented with Protea awards.
Nine karatekas from Michael Roetz Karate Institute in Edenvale competed in the Karate SA Open and Elite Championships where they excelled.

Marinda Roetz was included in the Protea team which will travel to Chile to compete in the Karate All Style World Junior, Cadet and u-21 Championships in October.

Achievements made by the Kartekas include:
• Renstia Roetz won elite kumite and received a Protea award for 2019.
• Chaceita Grobler placed third in kumite elite kumite, secured a victory in the Female Junior Unison Kata division and received a Protea award.
• Michael Roetz won kumite open.
• Mary Hambardzumyan placed second kumite open and received KSA colours award.
• Jared Wade secured a third in kumite elites and received a Protea award.
• Marinda Roetz won kumite, received a Protea award, placed first in the Female Junior Unison Kata division and received the trophy for the Best Junior Protea Woman of the Year.
• Zoë Parpottas won third in kumite elite and a first in the Female Junior Unison Kata division.
• Anthea Wade won kumite elite and received a Protea ward.
• Leonardo Hambardzumyan received his KSA colours.
