JVW look to 2019 Sasol League National Championships
JVW will compete in the 2019 Sasol League National Championships beginning in December.
The JVW Girls Football Development first team recently won the 2019 Sasol Women’s League for Gauteng.
The team will now participate in the national league from December 3 to 8.
JVW last won the Gauteng league in 2016.
Ciara Picco, JVW first team coach, said the battle for the title first saw the team go head to head with University of Pretoria (Tuks).
“We conceded in the first five minutes, which meant the players had to work hard to secure the win,” said Picco.
The match eventually ended in a 2-2 draw.
“We would’ve won the league with this match if we had beaten Tuks. We now needed two points to win the league and received one point for the draw,” said Picco.
JVW also played against Croesus Ladies Soccer.
“We had an intense match against Croesus. We came out guns blazing, but within three minutes we once again conceded, which felt like déjà vu,” said Picco.
The match also ended in a 1-1 draw, making JVW the winners of the Gauteng league by gaining the extra point they needed.
“It was such a relief. There was a lot of singing and dancing,” said Picco.
The Gauteng champs will next compete in the 2019 Sasol League National Championships, where nine provincial winners will compete.
The championships will take place at Tsakane Stadium in Ekurhuleni.
