Bringing back the flair of the beautiful game to Rhodes Park

The first match of this ongoing u-30s challenge was between Highlanders and Kings FC.

The Old Crocks Challenge started on December 1 at Rhodes Park.

The first match of this ongoing u-30s challenge was between Highlanders and Kings FC and ended in a 0-0 draw.

Highlanders coach Lindani Moloi said they started their team in January and decided to host challenges that take place every weekend. The purpose of these challenges, according to Moloi, is to revive their players since some of them are not playing as often as they used to.

“We formed this football club is to regain strength, not only physically but also mentally. It is always about decision-making.

“We aim to bring back what we always had, the flair. The players are looking good on the field, playing and enjoying every moment,” said Moloi.

He said they call it the Old Crocks Challenge because they get players who used to play soccer full time involved.

“For the challenge, we collect as much funds as possible and the winning team will walk away with the prize money.”

Moloi said they also aim to encourage young children to play soccer and get fit.

“I want them to enjoy seeing older people playing the game of football and get inspired.

“If we play at this age, they can also do it when they are our age. Our focus is not only for the ‘old crocks’ to have fun, but we also challenge youngsters to come on board and join the team,” he said.

The next match will be played this weekend.
