Dowerglen resident and rhythmic gymnast Karishma Naicker achieved her highest accolade when she was awarded her Protea colours.

Naiker was awarded her colours after she represented South Africa at the 15th African Championships in Egypt between March 10 and 14.

She returned on March 15 with three silver medals.

Upon arrival in SA, just before the lockdown, Naicker decided she would self-quarantine as a precaution.

Naicker practised for the championships during her matric year, 2019, during which she achieved seven distinctions.
