Bedfordview SAPS sergeant achieves personal best at Comrades Marathon

The Bedfordview SAPS are proud of one of their sergeants after he completed his eighth Comrades Marathon and brought home the Robert Mtshali medal.

Sergeant Mitirhoyakwe Mabunda from the Bedfordview SAPS is a dedicated long-distance runner and community servant.

He recently completed his eighth Comrades Marathon and beat his previous best time by 1:15, finishing in 09:49:15.

He received a Robert Mtshali medal. Sharing his story, Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lillian Modiga said Mabunda’s running journey began with the Comrades Marathon in 2017, where he earned a bronze medal on his first attempt.

His major achievements include the completion of seven Comrade Marathons with seven medals.

Mabunda has also completed three Two Oceans Marathons, where he received bronze medals.

His best time for the Two Oceans was 05:38:00. He has also completed the 73km Kosmos 3-in-1 three times.

Other 42km marathons he has participated in include the Soweto, Johnson Crane, ACTOM Power, and the Sanlam, where he achieved bronze medals for all.

“Sergeant Mabunda uses running to promote health, discipline, and community engagement. He believes an active lifestyle strengthens him as an officer and the communities we serve,” said Modiga.
