“There were a lot of strong teams on the field all showing good sportsmanship.”
Despite wet weather, learners brought their A-game when they competed in this year’s Saheti School Rugby Sevens and Netball Festival.
2020 marked the 26th year the tournament was hosted and saw u-16 and open teams take to the fields and courts.

It saw 32 rugby and netball teams from government and private schools compete in the festival.
Head of the department for sport at the school Werner Janse van Rensburg said the festival attracted schools from across Gauteng.
He said the 2020 festival had grown compared to the previous year.
Executive head of the school Warwick Taylor said there was a great atmosphere on the day.
“There were a lot of strong teams on the field all showing good sportsmanship,” said Taylor.
Because of poor weather conditions, the rugby sections only completed the pool stages of the event.
Janse van Rensburg explained that lightning stopped play.
He explained that for the cup final to proceed, eight teams in each age group needed to qualify for their semi-finals.
“It would’ve been really difficult to determine who the overall winners in the different categories are when none of the teams went through to the semi-finals,” said Janse van Rensburg
“Despite the storm, the day was still a huge success with real quality rugby that was showcased by the schools.”
High school sports coordinator Christina Mogale, said although the weather affected the day’s proceedings, the final scores for netball were determined on goal difference.
